At the close of the 2018-19 season, the Harrisburg Choral Society will bid farewell to music director Dr. Jason Vodicka. After five seasons of leading the Society, Dr. Vodicka is moving on to continue his academic career as Assistant Professor of Music Education at Westminster Choir College, Rider University in Princeton, NJ.
Dr. Vodicka joined the HCS in 2014, taking the baton from Dr. Robert Hart Baker. At that time, Dr. Vodicka was assistant professor of music at Susquehanna University and an active clinician and researcher. In his time with the HCS, he has raised the musicianship and technique of the ensemble, and introduced the singers to many new and unique singing opportunities. Some highlights of his tenure include a joint concert with one of his former organizations, the Pennsbury Community Chorus in Fairless Hills, PA, of Carl Orff's Carmina Burana, both in Southeastern PA and in the Harrisburg area; performing for the American Choral Directors Association's PA meeting at Susquehanna University; and more recently, joining with the West Shore Symphony Orchestra and SU colleague Dr. Jennifer Sacher Wiley to perform Brahms on their concert series.
Dr. Vodicka inspired and elevated the Harrisburg Choral Society, and while we will miss his presence, we will carry on the great work he has done to make the HCS the wonderful choral experience it is.
