Ian Bethmann, baritone, is a Senior Music Performance major attending Messiah College. Originally from Bethlehem, PA, Ian graduated from Freedom High School in 2014. Ian received the Dean’s Scholarship in Music to study at Messiah College. He currently studies voice as a bass-baritone with Dr. Damian Savarino. At Messiah College he has sung with the school’s Concert Choir, Chamber Singers and Men’s Ensemble under the direction of Mrs. Linda Tedford. Other ensembles he has performed in include Messiah College’s Opera Workshop and One College Avenue, a jazz vocal group. Ian is a regular soloist at First Presbyterian Church of Bethlehem in Bethlehem, PA and Silver Spring Presbyterian Church in Mechanicsburg, PA. He has won the Allegheny Mountain Chapter NATS Student Audition Competition in 2015, 2016 and 2017 as the first place finalist. Recent operatic Roles include “Colline” from Puccini’s La Boheme (Capitol City Opera Harrisburg), “Don Annibale Pistachio” from Donizetti’s Il Campanelo (Messiah College Opera Workshop), and “Grandpa Moss” from Copland’s "The Tender Land" (Messiah College Opera Company). Ian plans for the immediate future include graduate school for Music Performance and Pedagogy as well as free-lance performing.
